From Pig-Heart Boy to Noughts and Crosses, Malorie Blackman's contribution and influence on children and young adult literature is celebrated in this inspirational exhibition from the British Library.

With a prolific portfolio of over seventy books, this captivating exhibition delves into Malorie's three-decade-long career, and her evolution from library enthusiast to one of the UK's most beloved authors. The exhibition highlights Malorie's trailblazing impact as a pioneer for inclusivity and representation in publishing and her historic appointment as the UK's first Black Children's Laureate.

Drawing from Malorie's illustrious career, this exhibition features original synopses for her groundbreaking series Noughts and Crosses, artwork from her novels, works and objects that influenced and motivated her, as well as showcasing works from emerging authors inspired by her pioneering example. 

It also looks at Malorie's impact extending beyond the literary realm, with many of her works adapted for stage and screen including the acclaimed BBC production of Noughts and Crosses, underscoring her indelible mark on British culture and igniting crucial questions about race and identity in the UK.  

It showcases films and testimonials from familiar faces to everyday fans. Poetry and artwork responding to Malorie's work, created by Year 9 students at a London secondary school are peppered throughout, underscoring her influence and providing a rich cultural history to her career. 

Malorie's enduring contributions have transformed the landscape of Black representation in literature and paved the way for future creators. By spotlighting Malorie's remarkable journey, the exhibition provides a compelling exploration of Black British writing and publishing for young audiences, from recent history to the present day.
